Christmas Shopping on Facebook?!

Facebook announced a revamped Gift Shop yesterday, complete with  a “mall style” design that allows users to browse gifts by type.  Aside from the old selection of virtual gifts, users can now purchase official NBA-branded ones, school-themed gifts from a number of major colleges like Oklahoma State, gifts by Causes that benefit charities and…music!  Powered by lala.com there are over 8 million songs, available in the U.S. only, from Sinatra and Mozart, to Beyonce and the Rolling Stones.  We haven’t gotten to see all of the offerings yet, as the update will be rolled out over the next few weeks, but we’re waiting anxiously.

In order to purchase items from the Gift Shop, a user must enter credit card information and purchase credits.  Each credit costs 10 cents and the most common going rate for virtual gifts is 10 credits.  Songs are available in two forms: gift recipients can play 1-credit songs from their newsfeed and wall as many times as they want, as well as from LaLa.com if they choose to sign up or, if the giver pops for the 9-credit version, the recipient can download and even transfer it.

It also looks like Facebook will be rolling out purchasing and delivery of actual, physical gifts.  Just imagine – if most of your friends and family are on Facebook,  Christmas shopping will never be easier.  We can’t wait!
