Getting Started with Schools on Facebook

by Tony Zanders

This is a step-by-step guide to adding your institution’s Schools on Facebook app to your profile. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Kyle Langdon at klangdon@inigral.com.

Step 1: Log in to Facebook.

Visit http://facebook.com in your browser, and log in. If you don’t have a Facebook account, it takes less than a minute to create one.

Step 2: Visit your application’s URL and add the application.

Each institution’s Schools on Facebook application is different. Typically, it’s http://apps.facebook.com/yourschool. Simply clicking the “Go to Application” button will bring up a screen that asks you if you want to “Allow” the application to have access to your profile.

Step 3: Allow the application.

Allowing the application is the 2nd to last step, so you’re almost there! There’s nothing permanent about this step. At any point, you can go into your “Application Settings” within your Facebook profile to change your settings with the app, or you can go to your application’s URL to “Remove the application”. Students can type in their expected graduation year, and faculty and staff can click the Faculty/Staff link.

Step 4: Agree to your school’s terms.

One way that Inigral ensures your security is to make you authenticate your identity by entering your school email address and password. After entering your email address, you will have to go back to your email account to confirm that you own that email.

(Optional: Your school may require you to agree to your their online code of conduct.)

And voila…you’re in!
