Meet Inigral’s Student Bloggers

Facebook for College Admissions: Student Collage

One of my favorite reasons for working with colleges and universities on their Facebook efforts is meeting awesome students, as it wasn’t too long ago that I was in their shoes in the classroom. Because students are the lifeblood of all things education, we’ve taken some time in this post to let you know more about the students on Inigral’s student blogging squad, starting with the fact that they all have the best smiles on either side of the Mississippi river!

Carolina Madrid
Senior, Arizona State University

Facebook in Higher Education: Carolina Madrid

A native of Nogales, Arizona, Carolina Madrid is a business journalism and Public Relations major at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications. And the buck doesn’t stop there, as she’s already completed a Spanish minor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona last Fall.

Her dream internship, “luckily,” she adds, is very close to the one she has lined up for this summer in Los Angeles at Reuters. She’s intrigued that she’ll be exposed to the rigors of what her career will be like after graduation, and where she’ll be able to learn at the speed of light.

If she could redo her college application process, she would apply to all of the amazing schools that most students couldn’t even imagine being accepted in, asking herself, “What’s the harm?” She would also seek to have more guidance from recent graduates, not high school counselors who are often out-of-touch on the process.

If she started a school, it’s mission statement would be:

“To provide an education platform that is a product of collaboration between students and professors, never undermining the possibility that either of the parties (or a third party) may be more beneficial towards grasping the studied content, and where innovation and change is nurtured to achieve ultimate success in current times.”

Alissa Spangenthal
Senior, Fordham University

Facebook in Higher Education: Alissa Spangenthal

Hailing from the east coast, Alissa Spangenthal was born and raised in Northampton, Massachusetts. As a senior at Fordham, she’s about to complete a major in International Political Economy, with a concentration and minor in French.

She chose Fordham because it fit her criteria of being in or near a city while still having a real campus and the culture that comes along with it. And New York City was a major plus as well, because if  her classes were cancelled until further notice, she would take time to experience all the parts of New York City that she’s always wanted to but never had the time, like a trip to Coney Island, and visits to all of the museums and theaters.

If Bill Gates gave her one million dollars to change the way that college works, she would invest it in better evaluation systems for professors and administrators. While all of her professors have been incredibly intelligent and experienced, she has encountered many professors who don’t quite understand how to reach each individual student in an engaging way.

Nate Villegas
Junior, UCLA

Facebook for Higher Education: Nate VillegasNate Villegas is a junior at UCLA, focusing on Communication Studies with a Computing specialization. He was born a hop skip and a jump away from our new Headquarters in San Francisco.

One thing UCLA has done for Nate is open doors of opportunities in Los Angeles, a city that has something for everyone no matter how unique they are. For Nate, his interests in new media, art, music, television, and fashion are always met with open arms by students, staff, and faculty at UCLA.

If he could grade his professors on either creativity, knowledge, or practical application, he would grade them on practical application, as he finds it the most important takeaway from any college course.

If he could choose an all expense paid trip to either March Madness, South by Southwest (SxSW), or the 2012 Presidential Election, he’d attend South by Southwest because in just one week, he would be able to see, listen, and learn about things he’s already passionate about. Not only would he enjoy the performances and screenings, but I would be even more enthused about the opportunity to network with like-minded people and receive insights from some of the most talented tech experts.

You’ll be hearing from these future movers and shakers a lot on the Inigral Blog, keeping us posted on their journey through graduation, thoughts about their career, and the role that social media plays in it.
