Texas A&M Making Waves on Facebook
First, they won Blue Fuego’s challenge to be the first school with 100,000 fans on their Facebook page. Now, Texas A&M is leading the charge to make the most of this outlet with a program that they’re calling “Face 2 Face”.
The idea is to have prominent campus figures post video messages, allow the students and fans to comment on the video, and then have the featured speaker respond to the questions and comments right there, in the public comment section.
The first in the Face 2 Face series was a video by alumnus and head football coach Mike Sherman, in which he discussed why the Texas A&M network is such a unique community. “It isn’t a 4 or 5 year commitment, it’s a 40 or 50 year commitment.” Out of 80 comments, most were positive feedback on the coach’s message and the football program, and a handful were questions addressed directly to the coach, which he responded to personally.
The second featured speaker was Texas A&M Interim President R. Bowen Loftin ’71, discussing leadership techniques learned through past experiences. This Face 2 Face received a few more serious questions, and Dr. Loftin answered them at length within 48 hours.
A&M has found a great way to connect with their audience on a personal level, opening up communication channels that weren’t available before, and the alumni and students seem to genuinely appreciate this opportunity to have their questions answered and their voices heard.
