Transmit 4 Disks: A Tiny Tutorial
Transmit 3 has been my ftp client of choice since I started using it earlier this year. (I’m late to the game- Transmit 3 has around since 2005 but it hasn’t aged a bit). Earlier this week Panic launched Transmit 4 with a lovely announcement e-mail, and we’ve spent the last few days playing with its new features and enjoying the noticeable increase in speed.
On the product page for Transmit 4, Panic announced the Transmit Disk feature, which makes saving to a server as easy as saving to your own hard disk. There’s just one problem- setting up a Transmit Disk is the only non-intuitive part of an otherwise sleek and straightforward user interface. Here’s how you do it:
- Buy and install Transmit 4. If you had Transmit 3, the program will automatically import your favorites, otherwise a dialogue gives you the option of uploading your favorites from another ftp client.
- Select Trasmit > Preferences.
- In the General tab, click “Show Transmit Disk in menu bar”.
- Transmit Disk will ask to install an extension.
- After you’ve authorized and loaded the extension, the Transmit Disks icon will appear in the upper righthand corner of your screen. Click on the site you’d like to load as a disk under Favorites
- Your website is now loaded as a disk under Devices – you can save straight to the web!
